Help get SwitchBot integrated with SmartThings

Recommended Posts

Just got an email from SwitchBot that I think would make a few of us excited about the possibility. Here is the email:

SwitchBot Curtain funded in 12 minutes!

Help us unlock the stretch goals!

Thank you for your support to help us hit our goal in 12 minutes. More than 1000 backers pledged over $160,000 so far. It means so much to us after the months of preparation leading up to this. But we're not done yet!

The Kickstarter campaign has 38 days to go, and we have big plans!

STRETCH GOAL #1

Unlock Direct Integration with Smartthings at the $300,000 mark.

We heard you when you said connecting Smartthings through IFTTT being laggy. We heard you want to open up more possibilities with Smartthings. Yes, we heard you. And here is our promise. We will support direct integration with Smartthings for all SwitchBot products when we hit the $300,000 mark in the SwitchBot Curtain Kickstarter project.

Please help us keep the momentum going by sharing the SwitchBot campaign with your friends and family on Facebook. Let's hit our first stretch goal soon!

Oh totally @Brian W!  I right away posted this on Twitter and I must say...this would be huge.  The change here is the ability to physically do things.  I think this could literally connect the old home with a smart home.

Exactly. This creates avenues for people to keep their things and make the, smart with a very small investment. I think this is huge for the consumer and for SwitchBot. Imagine the push they will receive when this integration happens.

Agreed. In the meantime I'm using a SwitchBot Skill in Alexa. IFTTT also supports SwitchBot

@Krusher38 in talking with the SwitchBot team my understanding is these hubs have the same control functionality, just a new physical format and visual appearance. I recently received the new hub to create demonstrations for a senior smart home project I am working on. It seems to work the same so far, if I find any differences I will be happy to share.

@FrankE I finally have it our our educational calendar for May 21st. I have most of my PowerPoint ready to go, but I will be filming a few examples videos in my home to use in the PowerPoint. My real next focus though is to create some hands on demonstrations that I can setup in the classroom. We are sticking with very simple basic concepts, because the goal right now is to open up the minds of our seniors and their caregivers of the value these technologies can make in their lives.

This integration opens up worlds...what I didn't get is that I could turn on the IR based devices that I've attached to the hub.  Whoa

That’s a huge part of what takes integration from good news to great news.

In SmartThings I have connected with my Switchbot account and the options for devices is"other" it says successful but my Switchbot doesn't show up in my SmartThings. Am I missing something? Trouble shooting suggestions?

Have you tried just redoing the integration?  All the devices have shown up in mine and have even come across on integrations to the voice assistants if I want.

@AYL_Brian, I don't know how to remove the integration because there is no place that the switchbot shows up within my smart things app.  As I try to set it up again, It gets to the screen that says that your account has been integrated with smart things and switchbot and all things will be carried over to smart things (something along those lines).

My switchbot shows up in my switchbot app. Having the switchbot app on my phone and connected to the device, could that be the problem?

@AYL_Brian, I might be very glad that you just said that. I thought at the beginning of this post that it said at $300,000 of funding they would be direct integration with Samsung SmartThings. I interpreted this as it would connect directly with the smart things hub and not need a switchbot hub mini. Is that not the case? You still need a switch-pot hub?

That is confusing if that is the case. Will it never directly integrate with SmartThings hub without a switch but hub?

Posted (edited)

The switchbot team said they were not able to get there product to pair with the smartthings hub.

https://www.switch-bot.com/forum/general-discussion/switchbot-hub-vs-smartthings-hub

So it's only cloud to cloud interrogation which means you will need a switchbot hub mini minimum to get it to work.

Yeah...so it's all devices, but it does require any of the Hubs to work.  The reason for that is actually because the SwitchBot devices (other than the Hub) are BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy).  That means that they don't really have a connection point to the internet, and SmartThings hasn't actually used their Bluetooth Transceiver yet (to my knowledge anyways) for long term communication with products.

So basically, the Hub's needed to make the connection to the cloud, like @Larry Underwood said

Chicken or the Egg? Truly sad that SmartThings hasn't added BLE when it is capable already. Sad switchbot didn't know this ahead or work ahead to know this.

Now I have to get another hub, joy
