  1. Samsung have announced that they'll be retrofitting the Galaxy S3 & Gear Sport with the Bixby voice assistant replacing S Voice, as an S3 Frontier owner I'm really happy about this as it will give me smarthome control on my wrist 👍 https://www.sammobile.com/news/bixby-to-gear-s3-gear-sport
  2. My second capsule has been accepted in to the Bixby marketplace Senior Quiz is now available along with the previous Senior Workout I've submitted one capsule more that may not be accepted as it requires some configuration of the user's phone contacts One of the most common things for those living independently to ask their verbal assistant is "What time is it?" https://blog.eskaton.org/eskaton-deploys-amazon-alexa-to-100-seniors-in-assisted-living My Senior Time capsule greets them by name and also lets them know if they are asking for the time during their normal sleeping hours. This helps the confusion with 4AM verses 4PM that someone may hear when they think its time to get up for dinner
  3. The Verge is reporting that the Bixby smart home control available on the newest Galaxy Watch Active 2 is being made available on more of the Galaxy Watch range (older versions). Could make home control 'on the go' more of an option https://www.theverge.com/platform/amp/2019/11/19/20972100/samsung-galaxy-watch-active-2-update-bixby-health-customization-ux-options
  4. Samsung has described voice control through Bixby for SmartThings, e.g. turn off devices, but NOT a way for SmartThings to talk back to Bixby. In looking for a way to do this, I used my previously described "Announcer Bixby Routine" which continuously loops and speaks any notifications received by the phone. Then using SmartThings Automations, I was able to not only turn a reminder light at a specific time, respond to a button push to turn off the light, but also post a Notification to the Senior that gets spoken on the phone through the Bixby Routine. Now we have two-way communication Bixby <-> SmartThings Here is the YouTube video
  5. While most phone users would NOT want their phone speaking reminders, this can be very helpful for those with mild cognitive impairment wishing to remain living independently. Speech is not an option in Reminders on a Samsung phone, but those phones with the One UI upgrade have a feature called Bixby Routines which can speak Notifications. 1. Create a Bixby Routine using an IF trigger of "home" or set time to "always" and THAT action to "speak notifications" 2. Set the Notifications to allow "Reminders" Note that you could have ANY Notifications spoken using this technique, but too many could overwhelm the listener Here is a YouTube videeo https://youtu.be/EOr2QmcJyok Frank
  6. Here is a video of the Samsung Bixby capsule (app) that I will be demoing at an exhibitor booth at SDC19 https://youtu.be/fDc6pN8jf7k https://www.samsungdeveloperconference.com/
